Trash Talk is getting under way today in Broward County. Broward Commissioners today are set to vote all on a forty year master plan that brings together the County in more than two dozen municipalities for a unified effort. “What we’re focusing on is the goal of a zero waste lens to maximize our diversion from landfill and waste-to-energy, while really pulling out the value that is in trash.” Sunrise Mayor and Solid Waste Authority Chair Mike Ryan says that includes increasing composting in reducing recycling contamination. At the same time, negotiating the lowest price to dispose of what’s left with no plans to build a new incinerator. Each municipality must also vote on the in a local agreement by mid-August.
